"The home of volunteering in Brent"
Member of The HFVC Group
Tuesday 30th October 2012

Dozens of potential volunteers from across Brent descended upon Brent Town Hall to meet with local voluntary organisations and speak to them about volunteering opportunities at Brent Active Citizen’s Volunteers’ Match Making Event

The event, which coincided with Make a Difference Day – an annual event which celebrates the UK’s Biggest day of volunteering, and provides opportunities for thousands of people to volunteer every year in activities across the country.

Ken Luxon form Age UK Brent,  who attended the event said...
“Brent Active Citizens had booked a good venue and arranged Volunteers Match Making Event for a wide range of voluntary organisations to be present. We at Age UK Brent have been using volunteer for many years and have been impressed by the range of volunteers that Brent Active Citizens send our way so there was no way we were going to miss out on a day like this.   It was a good opportunity for us to network and meet old and new friends from the local voluntary sector and we could have stood around chatting all day except that staff from BAC had done their work well.

All through the day there was a steady stream of potential volunteers coming in through the door. They were all sorts of people, young people wanting to know what they could do in the world, others wanting a change in professional direction or to fill a CV, still others facing retirement and wanting to be active and engaged.  Somewhere in the room there was an organisation for them, a local group who needed their help. Somewhere in that room was an opportunity for them to grow, give and keep active.

We certainly had some excellent discussions and have high hopes of getting some really interesting volunteers. We eagerly look forward to BAC’s next matchmaking event.”

This year’s Volunteers’ Match Making Event was our 5th annual event and its continued popularity means we are already planning for next year, which we hope will be even bigger and better.

We would like to say big thank you to all the organisationsand residents who attended and who helped to make it yet another success.
