"The home of volunteering in Brent"
Member of The HFVC Group

This year national Volunteers’ Week 2014 has an extra reason to celebrate- its 30th anniversary! Brent Active citizens (BAC) participated in the festivities with a roadshow to raise awareness on the benefits and opportunities of volunteering and to register as many volunteers as possible. BAC attended various locations throughout the borough of Brent during Volunteers’ Week (1st -7th June) providing information and advice to local residents.

The Volunteering Roadshow saw the BAC team of staff and volunteers meet local residents at various sites including the Brent Civic Centre and the Asda in Park Royal. On the 4th June, at the Wembley Asda, there was a special visit from local Councillor Jean Hossain who joined us in talking with residents. Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place on 1-7 June. The ethos is to celebrate the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

BAC Chief Executive, Dominic Pinkney, said, “Volunteers’ Week is our opportunity to shout about the fantastic contribution of volunteers in Brent and encourage more people to support their community. Brent is a fantastic and diverse borough with many people helping and supporting their local community. Volunteering isn’t just pure acts of altruism as many people volunteer to help develop their skills, experience and confidence to progress and reach their goals, such as employment. Every day at Brent Active Citizens we see that volunteering changes lives and without volunteers many voluntary and community organisations would not be able to provide their services.”
